Australian Flavour
Every once in a while I get questions about Australian cuisine. Since I am a recent immigrant I don't know much about that, but luckily today I ran into a site called Australian Flavour
Here is the introduction written by Sharon Robards "About Us".
I hope you try some of them and enjoy them. My favourite? Lamingtons"Become part of a growing Australian online community based around the heart of the Australian Flavour website, which is a unique collection of original recipes from Australia’s earliest days, which have been verfied as having been cooked in the late 1800s or early 1900s. They have been taken from a book being compiled of the same name. These dishes were cooked by our great-grandparents. They are still cooked today, and have universal appeal. Some recipes are iconic. They are our unique contribution to world cuisine. When the first fleet of ships carrying convicts arrived in 1788 they brought with them recipes based on the British eating habits and cookery of that time. It was heavy with red meat, dull in some cases, and the availability of the ingredients required for many recipes, not known in Australia. What developed over the next two hundred years was a food culture diverse in ingredients. It is now a distinctively Australian cuisine with world-wide roots..."

Brisbane itinerary builder - Online - Dec. 14th
This week, Brisbane Marketing unveils "The Local Experience Brisbane campaign".
We do take the city for granted. But this really is Brisbane's day in the sun. Everything is happening here now, from having two Brisbane born figures like our new Prime Minister and Treasurer; to the residential boom and massive growth; to the development of the Gallery of Modern Art (now hosting Australia’s first major Andy Warhol retrospective bringing together more than 300 works spanning all areas of his practice from the 1950s until his death in 1987 — paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, photographs, films, videos and installations).
Many visitors to the city are now keen to experience the lifestyle of Brisbane people ... "to relax, to mingle with the locals and enjoy all the day-to-day things that people who live here might take for granted."
Brisbane's laidback lifestyle and outdoor culture offer a multitude of opportunities for visitors (from bars, restaurants and nightlife to picnics in the many parklands, or a stroll along the kilometres of riverside or bayside pathways).
Something as simple as riding the CityCat along the length of the river, or seeing a band at one of the live venues in the valley can open up visitors' minds to the great lifestyle we Brisbane residents enjoy all the time.
Brisbane has grown immensely in terms of its tourism and leisure options in the past five to 10 years - it's simply no longer the case that there's nothing to do in Brisbane.
The showpiece of the local campaign is a new online itinerary builder featuring about 300 world class leisure activities located within the greater Brisbane region. Content will continually grow and evolve as new activities and destinations become available. The online tool will allow people to grab a pre-built itinerary from people who know Brisbane best, based on the key motivational segments: Outdoors and Active, Community Connection, Intellectual Pursuits, Family Fun, Indulgence or High Energy.
People can also develop their own itineraries based on activities from each of these experiences, or customise an itinerary from any of the products or precincts listed in the builder.
The itinerary builder also offers helpful advice like booking details, right down to suggestions on where to have lunch or dinner.
The online Experience Brisbane itinerary builder will be live on Friday, December 14 at http://www.experiencebrisbane.com.

North Bank a glimpse of the future
Construction on Brisbane's $1.7 billion North Bank will start by the middle of next year, Premier Anna Bligh said today. The revised proposal was unveiled today by Ms Bligh and Multiplex's Shane Bulloch five years and a couple of re-designs after it was first mooted.
The new vision is more river- and people-friendly, with reduced building heights and a public boardwalk on the waterfront. Riverfront office towers were originally proposed to be 25 storeys but have been scaled down markedly to just eight storeys. However, the tallest buildings in the precinct will now reach as high as 46 storeys. Ms Bligh said this was necessary to free up the extra public space along the river.
A public plaza will be built in front of the old Commissariat Store and National Trust House in an effort to maintain the city's connection to its colonial days. A new park has been added at the Alice Street end of the site, while a 50m pool and pedestrian bridge to South Bank are still included. A new City Cat terminal and extra berths for tourist boats have also been incorporated.
"We have worked hard to deliver a project that offers the most for the public at absolutely no cost to taxpayers," said the premier.
"I understand that no one design will please everyone but what has been achieved is a fair balance that allows Multiplex to provide almost $300 million worth of facilities to the public."
Work on the project will start next year and it will proceed in three stages, with the first being ready by 2011 and the entire project being finished by 2019.
